How to make a pretty bunch of flowers – Flower arranging 101
Ever wondered how your florist gets their stems, you know..all swirly and pretty in a bouquet?
Before studying floral design I actually kind of assumed they did it much in the manner one might twist spaghetti before you put it in water, embarrassing huh? It is technically called stroussing & while it sounds easy in theory it is kind of tricky when you learn. Unless you find it easy, in which case you suck & I hate you!
I am going to tell you how anyway.

As much as I try to be the seasonal, homespun cook of days past I must admit that I love some of life’s modern conveniences.
My life would not be quite the same without dishwashers, Tivo, frozen berries, google, microwave ovens, instant yeast, canned peaches, online discount air fares, spray on cooking oil, email, mobile phones & such. There’s nothing wrong with making life a little easier on yourself.
During a routine monthly googling for baking supplies I recently found something a little different. Cardboard bakeware that doubles as the packaging! No greasing, no washing up, no repacking. Just bake & go!
Big swirly brown comfort – AKA Black & White Brownies
When I was little I used a cry a lot. I was just one of those weepy children who cry over everything. My dad always knew how to make me smile though. As tears drizzled down my pink cheeks he used to sweep them up with his Dad sized sausage fingers & eat them!
It always made me laugh. I could have used it yesterday.
I don’t know if it is the move, or having finished school or just being a little further away from everyone but I have been feeling a little bit alone lately. My dad lives in another state (granted it is only about 45 minutes drive just over the border) my sister is 4 hours away and everyone has their own lives and stuff to deal with. I guess I am just saying I have been feeling a bit blue.
It was time to take comfort into my own hands and Nigella seems to know a thing or two about comfort eating. Now was not the time for subtlety, it was the time for blunt force sugar, butter & chocolate. Aren’t brownies a joy?
Yes I am alive & baking (Macarons & Pancakes)
Soooooooo ……….I have a new pad.
I am feeling pretty fancy on account of it being incredibly too large for my needs, I like to saunter around it’s naked, unfurnished rooms while waving like the queen. I like to stand on the balcony that adjoins my bedroom, look out far to the city skyline & think everything the light touches is my kingdom.
It has been 3 weeks but my garage is still full of boxes. Sadly 3 of those boxes contain shoes, it is ridiculous….I am ridiculous.
